1. Canada Place, Vancouver This attractive tent-like structure is a relic from "Expo '86" -- that year's World's Fair. The city transformed an old cargo pier into a showcase intended to rival the Opera House in Sydney, Australia. You can decide for yourself if it succeeds. The shape of Canada place has been compared to a sailing ship, an insect, and a camping trip. Today it is home to a cruise ship terminal, a convention center, a hotel, and more.
3. Vancouver Library Does the fight for literacy take place in a Roman coliseum? It does in Vancouver, where the city's new library became an instant landmark. The building has 315 arches divided into nine floors. At certain points, the outer spiral of arches leaves the main body of the library like the spiraling arms of a hurricane. These create the wide plazas that the locals are so fond of for relaxing, reflecting, studying, debating, and more.
4. Vancouver Science World A nice addition to Vancouver's waterfront, this science museum sports a geodesic dome which lights up at night. The dome is made from 766 aluminum triangles covered with vinyl yielding a volume of 36,790 cubic meters. It was originally the Expo Centre during "Expo ‘86" but has now found new life as an Omnimax theater.
